What is the Weighing System
Our organization's commitment to a safe and respectful working environment has led to the implementation of an enhanced offensive language filter, operated through Proofpoint's firewall system. We encourage all employees to familiarize themselves with the Anti-Harassment Policy and to approach their supervisors or the HR department if they have any questions or concerns.
This system was developed with the intention of striking a balance between sensitivity toward offensive content and the practicality of everyday communication. Most messages flagged by the enhanced system are either spam or phishing attempts and on average less than 5 offensive messages are identified in our organization per week.
How It Works
The weighing system works by systematically scanning messages for potentially offensive language by assigning a weight to each identified word or phrase based on its level of vulgarity. An email's total score is determined by summing up these weights.
To illustrate, a message containing two mildly inappropriate words might not reach the threshold to be flagged. However, if these words are used in conjunction with a derogatory term, the cumulative score could exceed the set threshold, leading to the message being marked as potentially offensive.
