What are Sensitivity labels?

Sensitivity labels provide users with options to classify data in Microsoft Office documents according to predefined labels. Once a document is “stamped” with a sensitivity label, the security policy associated with that sensitivity label protects the document’s information.

Sensitivity labels are used to protect information in web-based versions and Office desktop apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook etc. and support this platforms Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android environments.

You will see the sensitivity labels option in all your Microsoft tools, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)

DLP policy will automatically scan your document/emails and auto classify a sensitivity label that the system thinks corresponds to the data you’re working on or sharing. If you feel like the justification set by the system is unwarranted, you can update the policy. (Note, if you are downgrading the policy, you will need to select a justification as to why you believe the sensitivity needs to be modified.) If you feel like the classification given was too low and it requires a stronger sensitivity label, you will be required to change the label, no justification is needed for this action.
